Fashion week opening in L.A. at Vibiana

Style Fashion week kicked off Fashion week in Los Angeles Monday Oct. 172011 at the beautiful historical venue Vibiana, downtown L.A. with a welcome party for Vips and media. Fashion week LA has made a global impact on the fashion scene by presenting fashion in new ways, merging interior design with fashion design, and giving Los Angeles based designers a world-class platform to showcase their collections.

Although the space is definitely a great choice for the upcoming shows the evening was more of a letdown when it came to Fashion and production. From the 3 designers showing only the first two stood out and left the audience gasping for more. Nicolita with their theme “ Mambo In Havana” showed many caliente one piece and 2 piece swim suits combining colorful solides with little ruffles and skirts that charmed even the male audience. From “baseball beauty” to “Cuban beauty” the girls attitude as well as the fashionable swim wear that reflect the Latin heritage on the runway left many smiling with joy.

The excitement was equally strong when the models started walking the runway presenting Kareena’s colorful tunics and kaftans. This clothing line consisting of silks, scarves and tunics impressed most because of  its hand made embroidery and embellishments of precious gems. Each piece more unique and beautiful than the other, literally jumped off of each models body like a piece of art. The meticulous attention to detail and the carefully chosen gems, crystals on colorful silks and tunics had much air of tropical locations and seem very suitable for the exotic traveler and jet setter.

In contrast to much glamour on the runway La La Land showed a much too sparse collection.

Showing flowing long skirts and pants, shirts, sweaters, cardigans on jersey, chiffon and cotton with prints of exotic animals such as cheetahs, flamingos and horses, combining them w/ black jeans or shorts seemed way to casual and less inspiring in it’s line up. It seems that much too little thought went into this line and resulted in a rather unsatisfying sloppy presentation, much to minimalist and casual, leaving the audience and media to question how this line ended up on the runway at all.

Present to beautify and hydrate the audience were: Napoleon Make up Vita CocoMonster and Voce hair care and other sponsors like ClarisonicWarren Tricome and Los Angeles Magazine.
